Grandma Beery's Butterscotch Pudding

1 c brown sugar
1 c water
3 T flour + 1 t cornstarch*
1 egg
1 c milk

Boil sugar and water. Mix together other ingredients and add to the sugar/water. Stir until boiling.

*If making pie filling, increase cornstarch.

Oh, how I loved it when Grandma Beery made either butterscotch pie, or "sawdust pudding." You might already know about sawdust pudding, but here goes, anyway. Using the same pretty glass dish each time, she layered pudding, sliced bananas, pudding and graham cracker crumbs two or three times. Yum! I'll have to show you the dish she used the next time you're at our house.
